Emmaus Church (Latin School)
The Heuersdorf Emmaus Church has stood opposite the town church since October 2007.
As a television broadcast or live on site,
it was possible to follow how the small rural church was moved 12 km from Heuersdorf to Borna. The fact that this particular church was allowed to move is due not only to the contract but also to its type of construction.
This late Romanesque fieldstone church was built in the 13th century. According to dendrological examinations in the roof stalls, it could be determined that the Emmaus Church was completed in 1258. Another remarkable detail are the high windows. These were placed in this way because people sought protection from crises and in the event of an attack they were better able to defend themselves.
This type of building is also called a fortified church, and these are rarely found in Saxony. Originally, the old Latin school was located here. It was a new construction (in 1628) of the church school that had been there before. The most famous pupil of this boys' school was the later writer Johann Gottlob Seume, who was taught here by the rector Korbinsky from 1777 to 1779.
